The performance honored James Morris in celebration of the fortieth anniversary of his Met debut.
At the close of the second intermission Peter Gelb presented James Morris with the crown he wore as Philip II in Don Carlo in recognition of his forty years with the Metropolitan Opera. Mr. Morris spoke briefly about his Met career.
