Die Fledermaus
Metropolitan Opera House, Fri, February 8, 1991
In German & English
Die Fledermaus (171)
Johann Strauss II | Karl Haffner/Richard Genée
In Act III, Luciano Pavarotti made a surprise appearance in the prison to have Dom DeLuise "arrested" for impersonating him. After order was restored, Pavarotti read a citation on behalf of the management to DeLuise that he could return at any time and in any role except Calaf in Turandot which was reserved for Pavarotti. Pavarotti and DeLuise took curtain calls together and each tried to outdo the other in waving handkerchiefs.
