Licia Albanese in 'Figaro' at Met

Licia Albanese sang the Countess' role for the first time at the Metropolitan Opera House last night, when Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro" had its fifth performance of the season. Her interpretation had dramatic individuality and, as a rule, expressive persuasion, although the range of mood seemed less than usual during the second act. Here her singing did not represent her voice at its best, despite its emotional communication, but it gained in steadiness after the [beginning of the second act] aria.

Nadine Conner was a vivacious and bright voiced Suzanna; Rosalind Elias as Cherubino sang "Voi che sapete" with musicianship and appealing vocal warmth. Giorgio Tozzi and Martial Singher were in good form as Figaro and the Count

Sandra Warfield as Marcellina, Gerhard Pechner as Bartolo, Alessio de Paolis as Basilio, Lorenzo Alvary as Antonio, and Emilia Cundari as Barbarina were among the others in the cast singing under Max Rudolf's direction.
