Laurel Hurley Excels in Her Debut as Susanna
“The Marriage of Figaro” was performed at the Metropolitan last night with Laurel Hurley singing her first Susanna with the company.
Miss Hurley’s Susanna reinforced the good impression which the young soprano has made in other roles. She finds the music of Susanna well suited to her voice and last night she sang the role with grace and precision, further enhanced by her considerable gifts as a comedienne. It was a well-sung, well-acted performance which did Miss Hurley great credit.
Others in the cast heard previously this season were Martial Singher, Lisa della Casa, Cesare Siepi, Mildred Miller, Sandra Warfield, Fernando Corena, Alessio de Pao lis, Gabor Carelli, Madelaine Chambers, and Helen Vanni. Max Rudolf conducted.
