Review 1:
Review of Leonard Liebling in the Musical Courier
Pons and Peerce in "Lucia"
Lily Pons, most popular of coloratura sopranos, warbled the embroidered woes of Lucia with her wonted taste and facility. The traditional climax of enthusiasm came after the sparkling Mad Scene. Jan Peerce as Edgardo, in best brilliance and felling, tossed off high tones with the same easy command that distinguished his lyric line and polished delivery. His acting has improved immeasurably. Leonard Warren's singing in the role of Enrico was one of the highlights of the performance; he has grown into a baritone of the most marked eminence. Moscona sang Raimondo, Thelma Votipka was the Alise, De Paolis did Arturo especially well, and John Dudley made the most of his contributions as Normanno. Cesare Sodero conducted with his habitual solicitude for the singers and for the "Melos" of the score.
