Elisabeth Ohms Sings in 'Die Walküre'

The season's fifth hearing of Wagner's "Die Walküre" at the Metropolitan Opera House took place last evening, with Elisabeth Ohms as Brünnhilde. Mme. Ohms, who had made her debut with the company last Friday as the "Götterdämmerung" Brünnhilde, made a favorable impression as the young Valkyr, if not one of strikingly defined outline.

Her soprano had much beauty of tone in the medium and was heard to better advantage in the upper scale, perhaps where there was more fullness than on Friday. She was not, however, quite equal to the thrilling sweeps of the war cry "Hojotoho" on her entrance, her voice failing her in quality and pitch on the top notes. Her general characterization was one in which she absorbed her exhausting role with fine intelligence and sang and acted with poetic spirit and admirable art.

Mme. Kappel, always familiar in the title role, sang the Sieglinde last night with ingratiating presence and style, but she was not in best voice. Other singers in the cast were Mr. Bohnen, an imposing Wotan, and Miss Branzell an admirable Fricka. Mr. Laubenthal as Siegmund, and Mr. Gustafson as Hunding, completed the star list of singers. Mr. Bodanzky conducted.
