ROSA PONSELLE SCORES HERE IN OPERA 'NORMA' Review 2:

Singer's Appearance Brings Large and Representative Audience to Academy Review 3:

It was emphatically Rosa Ponselle's night at the Academy of Music last evening where Bellini's "Norma," was presented by the Metropolitan Opera Company as the third Brooklyn opera of the season. In colorful magnificence, carefulness of production and beautiful singing, this musical story, revived last year at the Metropolitan Opera House after an elapse of more than ten years, and later heard in this borough, is probably Mr. Gatti-Casazza's greatest achievement. Review 4:

Miss Ponselle's appearance here in "Norma" brought a large and representative audience to the Academy. The boxes were filled, all the orchestra and balcony chairs were taken and standees crowded the rear of the orchestra floor. And those drawn to the Academy by the charm of Mme. Ponselle were not disappointed by her performance. Her voice was never heard to better advantage and her singing of the famous aria "Casta Diva" brought forth prolonged and enthusiastic applause. Her singing, in recent years, has acquired deeper and richer tones and her acting, too, has improved. Norma unquestionably is her best role and her interpretation of the forsworn priestess has added much to the already high esteem in which she is held.
