Peralta in 'La Gioconda'
Takes Mme. Larsen-Todsen's Place in Title Role
"La Gioconda" at the Metropolitan yesterday afternoon gave Frances Peralta one more opportunity to demonstrate her talents. Nanny Larsen-Todsen operatic pinch-hitter of this season (and others) was billed to sing the title role, but succumbed after the "Siegfried" performances to the prevailing indisposition, and Mme. Peralta sprang into the breach, an act which she has performed so often of late that the management scarcely has a chance to bill her in her own right. Incidentally, she sang the role exceedingly well, as did Marion Telva as Laura, a part which gave her voice more than the usual opportunity.
Mr. Gigli was superb as Enzo, and Mr. Danise's Barnaba was sinister and resonant. Mme. Alcock sang La Cieca in good voice. Others in the cast were Messrs. Didur, Reschiglian, Gabor, Ananian, and Paltrinieri. Mr. Serafin conducted, and the ballet disclosed a rather ragged performance of the famous "Hours."
