Review in the Post

'Lohengrin'

"Lohengrin" was given last night at the Metropolitan for the fourth time this season before a representative audience of veteran operagoers. It was one of the most pleasing performances the work has had in some time. Its charm rested not only in the skill with which the leading parts were filled, but quite as much in the spirit that animated it, the atmosphere that surrounded it and the dramatic account with which it was carried through.

The cast was unusually good and included those who have appeared before this season. Elsa was sung again by Mme. Easton, who gave more convincing proof of her great ability as an artist, of her vocal powers and her versatility as an actress. She was in excellent voice and her impersonation was one of great beauty.

As Lohengrin Laubenthal reached a high artistic stature and sang in the bridal scene with extreme tenderness, Mr. Schorr's Telramund was robustly dramatic; Bender's King Henry was finely conceived and sung. Mme. Branzell's Ortrud had all the suggestion of wickedness and Mr. Bodanzky conducted effectively. The singers were, naturally, recipients of a warm greeting at the end of each act.
