LAST APPEARANCE OF CARUSO

The Tenor Makes His Farewell With Mme. Nordica in 'La Gioconda'

The knowledge that Mr. Caruso is to sing here for at least two years more did not prevent his admirers from flocking to the Metropolitan Opera House last night to hear him for the last time this season. They filled the seats and the standing room, applauded him vociferously, and had ample justification for he gives no lovelier exhibition of his voice and art than in "Cielo e Mar."

Last night he sang exquisitely the aria which is an example of his highest achievement and is a pendant to the incomparable "Una Furtiva Lagrime" from "L'Elisir d'Amore." In spite of the applause which came from the entire house the tenor refused to repeat the aria. He had a laurel wreath as an additional mark of the appreciation which his admirers feel for him.

Mmes. Nordica and Homer and M. Plançon were other members of the cast who sang for the last time this season. Mme. Nordica, who was warmly applauded carried away a mammoth bouquet, and Mme. Homer was not forgotten by her friends. The contralto was is especially good voice. After the third act Signor Vigna was called before the curtain with the other artists and had a little ovation of his own.
