Don Pasquale
Metropolitan Opera House, Sat, January 6, 1906
Don Pasquale (14)
Gaetano Donizetti | Giovanni Ruffini
Due to the chorus strike, the scheduled Lohengrin performance had been changed to Don Pasquale. The New York Times reported on the performance: "The substitution of Donizetti's "Don Pasquale" for "Lohengrin" at the popular evening performance made necessary last Wednesday when it seemed as if there would be no chorus, was not at all a popular proceeding. The audience was a dismally small one, and several hundred people who had bought tickets for "Lohengrin" had their money refunded. It was a pity, in some ways, that the brilliant and sparkling performance of Donizetti's comedy should not have a greater appreciation. In it Mme. Sembrich gives some of her beautiful singing and bewitching comic acting, and the other singers give characteristic representations of their parts."
Don Pasquale received four performances this season.
