M. MAUREL WAS THE TRIUMPH
His Solos the Feature of the Metropolitan Opera House Concert Last Night.
The programme at the Metropolitan Opera House concert last evening was interpreted by Mmes. Saville, Beeth, Bauermeisteer; M. Maurel, M. Plançon, M. d'Aubigne, Herr Wallnöfer, and a large orchestra conducted by Herr Seidl and Signor Seppelli.
Mme. Saville sang with brilliant execution "Ernani Involami," and, on recall, "I dreamt I dwelt in marble halls" from "The Bohemian Girl." Both were given in charming manner. She was also heard with M. d'Aubigne and Plançon in the Trio from "Faust."
Mme. Lola Beeth was in perfect voice. She gave a magnificent rendition of the Aria from "La Juive," and after many recalls, a Polish song and a Swedish Volkslied. She received a double encore. Her numbers were given in brilliant style, and greatly pleased the large audience.
But the feature of the evening was the artistic delivery of M. Maurel's solos. His numbers, "Dis-moi que tu m'aimes" by Hess, and "Rondel de l'adieu" by De Lara awoke enthusiasm. As an encore he gave a song by Tosti "Nu Mazzo de Sciure," which he was twice obliged to repeat, after many times appearing to bow his acknowledgements. As he was suffering from a cold, he changed his other programme numbers, singing, in place of the "Hymn to Eros," "Pauvres Fois" by Tagliaflaco, and on recall "Menuet Danse," by Massenet. All of M. Plançon's numbers were magnificently given. They were an aria from "The Queen of Sheba," "Les Rameaux" and the "Grand Air du Chalet." Much and deserved recognition was also given to the artistic work of M. d'Aubigne.
Herr Wallnöfer sang the "Prize Song" from "Die Meistersinger," and in the quintet from that opera with Mmes. Beeth and Bauermeister, M Plançon and M. d'Aubigne.
The orchestral numbers were the "Merry Wives of Windsor" overture; Handel's "Largo" and Tchaikowsky's "Polacca."
The house was well filled.
