METROPOLITAN OPERA HOUSE.

Meyerbeer's opera, "Der Prophet," drew a very good audience at the Metropolitan Opera House last evening, considering the difficulty which the public has just now in reaching places of amusement. The only notable incident of the performance was the reappearance of Frau Schroeder-Hanfsängl a soprano whose good work has before been heard at the German opera. Her voice is a decided improvement on the somewhat worn and uncertain organ of her predecessor in the rôle of Bertha. It is still strong and clear in the upper half. The lower part was not particularly powerful when she was here before. Her method is generally commendable, and she sings usually with taste. Her performance last evening was praiseworthy.

Herr Perotti's impersonation of John of Leyden is not impressive dramatically, but his singing of the part improves on acquaintance. Last evening his vocal display was as energetic and prolific in sustained upper tones as usual, and that large portion of the audience which loves such exhibitions applauded him vociferously. Frau Moran-Olden was again the Fides. She was uncommonly faithful to the pitch, and her staging was therefore excellent, for she does not lack command of broad, dramatic style. The other members of the cast were the same as heretofore. Walter Damrosch conducted admirably.

This afternoon Wagner's "Tannhäuser" will be repeated, and it is probable that Herr Alvary will still be unable to appear, so that Herr Kalisch will have an opportunity to give his fine interpretation of the title rôle a second time.
