Review 1:
Review in The New York Times
METROPOLITAN OPERA HOUSE.
The performance of the second number of the Nibelungen trilogy, "Siegfried," attracted a large audience at the Metropolitan Opera House last evening. It is not to be wondered at that this work brings a goodly number of people together, for there is less in it to puzzle and tire the hearer who is not thoroughly mastered by reverence for all that Wagner does. The performance last evening did not differ materially from those heretofore described. Herr Alvary was in good voice, and went through his labors as Siegfried with the same care and earnestness as usual. His interpretation of the part has been praised in this place, and it is not necessary now to add anything to what has been already said. Herr Kemlitz is a most unsatisfactory Mime, but as there is no one in the company to play the part it is no use to complain. Herr Fischer, Herr von Milde, Herr Elmblad, Fräulein Brandt, and Fräulein Lehmann repeated their former excellent work. Fran Seidl-Kraus sang the bird music in her customary manner, which is not excellent.
